Conclusions
from Upson County Project
-
Probate records
identify more slaves than all other records combined.
-
Deeds and mortgages
identify the next highest number of slaves.
-
All other records
account for only about 1/4 of the slaves identifiable in records
associated with Upson County (after counting each perosn once who
may be named more than once on separate but related records).
-
"Plantation
records" may be unavailable. I found only two collections of
"plantation records" from Upson County in archival
collection throughout the country, and only one of these named any
significant number of slaves.
