The A.B.G.S Middle School Genealogy Club was started in September 2000 by Ms. Edith McRae, Club Advisor. Mrs. McRae had been trying to get a Genealogy Club in existence for a few years, and finally, permission was given in September to start the club. The first person to join the club was Jason Williams, a 7th grader. Jason's enthusiasm was infectious. He went around the school recruiting other students to become members of the club. Jason is a very optimistic student and we would like to thank him for a job well done!
Our Club was named after Mrs. Alberta B. Gray Schultz (deceased). Mrs. Schultz was an African-American woman who had a love of knowledge and was proud of her African-American Heritage.

With this in mind, we the A.B.G.S. Middle School Genealogy Club made it our goal to research our family/ancestral roots, documenting our discoveries for future generations where we can, but seeking above all to know our ancestors and to find through them a richer sense of history and ourselves.
Our aim for our members is to attempt to create an interest in black family ancestry as well as other ethnic groups. We feel that Genealogy retrieves a large part of our history and ancestry, which has too frequently been overlooked, ignored and sometimes obliterated!
Our club would like to be a link to the history of our ancestry by helping the members to:
A. Search for their own roots
B. Research records such as births, census, death, marriage and/or oral history.
C. Help members examine genealogical materials pretaining to their family history.
Our Motto is:
Historians will write the biographies of famous families, but possibly no one but you will trace your family heritage. The stories of our families, families whose experiences helped build the world we live in today, must be written by us. With each year, an older family member passes. We must remember that we risk losing some part of our heritage forever. We can't start a moment too soon to research our family heritage.
