Will of William Sanders 1773-1824 (excerpt)

        
William's will has these exerpts:

. . . I also devise to my wife and her assigns, my slaves, George, Hannah his wife, Dave, Louisa his wife, Esther and Si (Josiah)...I direct that my negro woman Venus  be sold and that Frances Smith shall have the preference as a purchases, provided he will give what my executors may deem a fair price. I give to my son James a negro boy named Ambrose, to son Harold a negro boy named Gloster, to son William a negro boy named Joe, to my son John a negro boy named Burwell, to my son Leander a negro boy named Mitchel, to son Andrew a negro boy named Charles (and if Charles proves materially defective in his feet, Andrew is to have in lieu of him the first child my negro woman Hannah shall have hereafter), to my son Edwin I give a negro girl named Susan, to my daughter Polly a negro girl named Theda, to my daughter Senah, a negro girl named Mary and to my daughter Catherine Oury a negro boy named Toby.
