Will of Richard Ransom

        
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN:  the twenty seventh day of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and forty eight. I Richard Ransom of Saint Andrew Parrish in the County of Brunswick being sick and weak but of sound and perfect memory do made and ordain this my last Will and Testament.  IMPREMIS, I desire that my body may have a decent and christian burial at the discreition of my Exores hereafter named.

ITEM, it s my will and desire that my slaves Andrew and Lucy and my slave peter now in the possession of my Father in Glauchester County may be sold and that the money arising therfrom be applied towards the payment of my just debts.

ITEM:  I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Frances Ransom during her natural life the use of the plantation whereon I now live with all my other slaves and estate of what kind forever.

ITEM:  I give and bequeath unto my son James Ransom and his heirs after his Mothers decease two slaves named Caesar and Hannah.

ITEM:  I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Hicks Ransom and to his heirs after the death of his Mother two salves named joe and Jeffry.  ITEM All the rest of my estate not hereinbefore mentioned I desire may be equally divided between my three children James Robin & Elizabeth and lastly I do hereby constitute appoint and ordain my trusty friends Col. John Wall and Col Nathaniel Edwards to be joynt Executors of this my last Will and Testament, and do also appoing them and the survivor of them to be Guardian to my two sons James and Robin whom I desire they may be bound Apprentics's to such trade or calling as the think they shall think fit when they come to the age of sixteen years.

And I do hereby utterly revode and make void all other Will or Wills by me in  any manner heretofore made.

IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year herein first above written.
