Will of James Gwyn, Sr. - Aug 1850 Wilkes County know all men by these presents that Whereas James Gwyn Sr. Deceased late of Wilkes County by his last will and testament in writing did among this legacy Herein contain give and bequeath unto his son James Gwyn one fifth part of certain Negro slaves Herein named to wit, Mason Lucy, Baldy Shadrack Peggy, Betsy, Harriet, Polly, Mary, Caroline Lousia & Caty and of his said will ____ and constituted Richard Gwyn Executor or by said ___ will appears, Now know ye that the said James Gwyn, in company with Ransom Gwyn, Richard Gwyn, Hugh Gwyn and Little Hickerson the only lawful heirs of the before named Negro slaves met at the late residence of the said James Gwyn Deceased on the 7th of August 1850 where and when they all did mutually agree with and by the consent of the said J. Gwyn that he the said J. Gwyn might take Mason Lucy and their two youngest children Caroline & Louisa at the sum of eight hundred twenty 820$ dollars, Baldy at the sum of Six Hundred dollars, Shadrack at the sum of five hundred and eighty dollars and Peggy at the sum of Four hundred dollars making in all for said Mason Lucy, Carolina, Louisa, Baldy, Shadrach, & Peggy the sum of twenty four hundred dollars 2400$ Which sum the said James Gwyn has accounted for to us the other Heirs in his distribution share of the estate of said J. Gwyn Sr. & by note for the balance. Now __ the said Ransom Gwyn Richard Gwyn, Hugh Gwyn a Little Hickerson do finally relinquish all our right, title, interest & claim to the said Negroes above named to him the said J.
